Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Posted in GameCube with tags on September 18, 2023 by drewturpin

The GameCube version of Resident Evil 3 is almost a direct port of the original PlayStation 1 game. It was released in 2003, about four years after the PlayStation 1 release and at first glance does not appear to offer any real enhancements from the original. Therefore, it did not review particularly highly, and sale volumes were low, which is not surprising as it sold at full price when a budget price would have made more sense.

All this has resulted in it becoming collectible in today’s retro gaming market. It wasn’t a complete port of the PlayStation 1 game though, as it contained improved visuals, character models and textures but not much else. I picked this up many years ago at a Gamestation for £10, however prices on ebay tend to be between £40 and £60 depending on condition, but still worth purchasing if you are an avid Resident Evil collector.

Resident Evil Survivor – Promo Disc

Posted in PlayStation 1 with tags on September 22, 2022 by drewturpin

Here we have the promo disc of the Resident Evil Survivor, originally released in 2000 on the PlayStation 1. It is a on rails first-person light gun shooter and a spin-off of (and a major departure from) the main Resident Evil series.
The game received poor review scores with the main criticism being that it was too slow paced.

I bought this with a batch of other Resident Evil games, so I can’t provide an accurate amount for what I paid for it, but it would have been a lot less than the £60+ you should expect to pay if you should find it on ebay.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X – Sealed

Posted in PlayStation 2 with tags on March 20, 2015 by drewturpin

This is the sealed copy disc of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. This game was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast as Resident Evil Code: Veronica back in 2000. This updated PlayStation 2 version, with the added X in the title, was release in 2001.

The updates were essentially a “Director’s Cut” which contains approximate ten minutes of extra cut scenes and some graphical changes. This sealed copy is of the re-released version from 2012. As this release is fairly recent it should be relatively easy to find on ebay and can be picked up for around £10.

Resident Evil 4 – Sealed

Here we have a sealed copy of the classic Resident Evil 4, however this is the re-released version from 2010.

As this release is fairly recent it should be relatively easy to find on ebay, and can be picked up for around £10, however, I would expect these to increase in value.

Resident Evil 4 – Promo Disc

Posted in PlayStation 2 with tags on October 10, 2014 by drewturpin

This is the promo disc version of the classic Resident Evil 4 and comes in a slim clear CD case containing a proper insert.

I have been after this particular promo for a while now and was very pleased to snap one up from ebay for £20.

However, expect to pay around £40 and upwards for a copy, as most on these ebay tend to be on “buy it now” listings.

This is another promo that is not seen that often on ebay so expect to pay upwards of £30 if you are lucky enough to track one down.

Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 – Promo Disc

Posted in PlayStation 2 with tags on February 9, 2014 by drewturpin

This is the promo disc of the sequel to Resident Evil Outbreak (promo here), and is more of the same as far as gameplay goes.

This promo copy of the game comes in a slim clear CD case and does contain a proper insert.

This is becoming rarer to spot on ebay and therefore tends to go for between £20 and £30 when it does turn up.

Resident Evil 1 & 2 – Controller

Posted in PlayStation 1 with tags on June 28, 2013 by drewturpin

Here we have a controller that was release by ASCII for the PlayStation 1 versions of the Resident Evil series. This controller was release around the same time as Resident Evil 2, hence the very recognisable image on the front of the box.

However the instructions inform you as well as working for Resident Evil 2 it is also compatible with Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 1 Director’s Cut. In fact there is no reason why this controller can’t be used with Resident Evil 3 as well. Included is the box the controller came in, as well as the multi-language instruction manual and registration card.

Having tried out this controller it does take a bit of getting use to, however with some practice it becomes a useful peripheral.  Unusually all the shoulders buttons are now located in the middle of the controller above the Start and Select buttons.

The right hand side includes a “Gun Grip” with trigger, which has “Resident Evil” printed on the handle.

Locating a controller to buy shouldn’t prove too hard, however finding one boxed with instructions and registration card might prove much more difficult. I paid £15 (inclusive of postage and packing) for this controller from an ebay auction, and this also included a mint copy of the Platinum version of Resident Evil 2. This is a great price for both items and was probably down to the item description not specifying that the controller was the ASCII’s Resident Evil type. Expect to pay over £10 for the controller on its own and over £20 if you are lucky to find a boxed one complete with instructions and registration card. Also be aware that postage for this item would normally be relatively high, so pay attention to any delivery costs.

Resident Evil – Game Guide Book

Posted in PlayStation 1 with tags on June 7, 2013 by drewturpin

This is a game guide for the PlayStation version of Resident Evil and, as you can see from the cover, is “totally unauthorized”. This small paperback guide, published by Brady Games, is of a particularly lower quality from the glossy guides we see nowadays. The paper quality is poor meaning the black and white screen shots are not the best and the page layout leaves a lot to be desired.

However, the guide itself is very well written which is probably why Brady Games were subsequently given the official license to produce future guides for the series. It is an interesting addition to my Resident Evil collection and does not appear too often on ebay but if it does then expect to pay around £10. This copy was picked up at a boot sale for just ten pence.

Wesker’s Report

Posted in PlayStation 2 with tags on April 19, 2013 by drewturpin

This DVD was a pre-order bonus from GAME and Electronic Boutique stores for the PlayStation 2 version of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, and was originally released in Japan to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the series.  It is essentially a 20 minute documentary narrated by Albert Wesker using videos from previous Resident Evil games, and fills some of the gaps and plotlines between the first three instalments.

However the lack of any new videos or extras makes it one for the fans of the franchise only. I picked up this version, along with a copy of the Code: Veronica X game for under £2 on ebay, due to the listing being unclear. However expect to pay between £10 and £20 for a copy of the disc.
