Acornsoft Game Pack 1

Posted in Acorn Atom on May 31, 2013 by drewturpin

Here we have a complete copy of Acornsoft’s Game Pack 1, the first of many compilation tapes released by the company for the Acorn Atom.  This compilation, the best in my opinion, contains the three games “Asteroids”, “Sub Hunt” and “Breakout”.

I have not seen a copy of the first game pack anywhere for sale in the last few years, however other game packs (Acornsoft released 11 Game Packs in total) do appear very rarely on ebay and tend to go for between £20 and £30.

I would imagine this very first game would go for slightly more, although I have no intention of selling it. This was the very first computer game I ever bought, it was back in 1982 and cost me £11.50 (a lot of money for a teenager back then) from Broadway Electronics, a computer shop in Bedford.

Final Fantasy XII – Double Sided Poster, Mini Guide and Instant Win CD

Posted in Playstation 2 on May 24, 2013 by drewturpin

Here we have some pre-order merchandise for Final Fantasy XII. This little bundle was available from GAME stores if you had ordered your copy of the game from them. First up, and the most impressive, is a double sided glossy A2 poster which would look fantastic on any wall.

Also included in a mini version of the official Piggyback game guide, which provides an initial walkthrough and character guide.

Finally we have an “Instant Win” CD-ROM card, which provides access to three Final Fantasy XII themed wallpapers and a screensavers. In addition the code on the disc allows you to enter a competition to win a signed Final Fantasy XII poster, unfortunately the website that check your code has long since gone so I am not sure whether this is a winning disc or not.

I picked up this collection off ebay (along with a copy of the game) for £12, although I am not sure how to put an actual value on any of these items as this is the first time I have ever seen them available.

Sinclair Answers – Issue 1

Posted in ZX Spectrum on May 17, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the very first edition of Sinclair Answers magazine which was first published in September 1984. It was an off shoot of the magazine Computer Answers, however it only appears to have run for just two issues. A keyboard overlay for the ZX Spectrum was given away with this first issue, which explains the cover design. The tiny bit of damage to the front cover was caused by the sticky tape used to keep this free gift in place. Unfortunately I do not have this keyboard overlay, but it would make a nice addition to this magazine if I did.

This magazine appears very rarely on ebay so prices are difficult to gauge, but expect to pay around about £5 for a complete copy in good condition. Also because of the age of the magazine the condition can vary, so I would always email the seller to get a better understating of the overall state of the magazine (e.g. missing pages, rips, tears, writing etc).

The Last Ninja 2 – Limited Edition

Posted in Commodore 64 on May 10, 2013 by drewturpin

The Commodore 64 version of The Last Ninja 2 is a fantastic game which was very well received back in the day, and sold many copies. So what makes this version so special… well it’s not some much the game itself, which can be pick up with relative ease nowadays.

Last Ninja 2 (1)

It is more about the extra goodies that come in the box along with the game. Included in this nice little package are an “Avengers 3D map”, “Avengers Handbook”, “Shiraken Star” and “Ninjitsu Fighting Mask”.

Last Ninja 2 (2)

As you can imagine there was a bit on controversy around this throwing star (which is made of a thick rubbery plastic) and to some degree the mask. Kids took them into school to show off their ninja skills with caused a bit of upset amongst the teachers and parents. Very quickly this extra content was removed from future releases so finding a complete version of this game package is very hard.

Last Ninja 2 (3)

It’s been a while since I have seen a complete version on sale, so it is difficult to put a price on this item, however do expect to pay upwards of £20 for one in decent condition.

Grand Theft Auto 2 – Alternative Version

Posted in Playstation 1 on May 3, 2013 by drewturpin

This is a little bit of an unknown rarity and hence can be picked up cheaply if you are into your GTA franchise games. I didn’t know this even existed until I stumbled across a picture of it on ebay.

Grand Theft Auto 2 (1)

At first glance it appears to be GTA 1 as it uses an identical cover picture, with just the title being changed. Other differences between this version and the standard version also include the manual and disc artwork. Although it is interesting to note that the map is the same as in the one that is in the standard version, which is confusingly titled “GTa2”.
