Rapid Reload

Posted in Playstation 1 on July 24, 2012 by drewturpin

At a time when 3D games were the norm this superb 2D “run and gun” games got little attention back in 1995 when it was released on the Playstation 1. However it is up there with Treasure’s Gunstar Hero, and is the best example of it’s genre on the console. A great game that had very little promotion at the time resulting in low sales, which ultimately means the game is relatively rare.

The Manga style front cover, although not immediately eye-catching, adds to the overall appeal. Picked up at a bootsale for £1, however expect to pay between £20 and £30 for a complete copy from ebay.

Final Fantasy XII – 8 Art Cards

Posted in Playstation 2 on July 17, 2012 by drewturpin

Here we have a collection of eight Final Fantasy XII art cards including a cardboard slip case to hold them all. I believe these were given out at the “Final Fantasy XII” launch at HMV (Oxford Street, London) on 23rd February 2007.

This lovely collection of prints were given out to those people who bought the game at the launch event, which had about 200 attendees, so I can’t imagine there are too many of these out there. I was fortunate to pick this one up on ebay (along with a copy of the game) for £5, however expect to pay £20 or more for this item should you be fortunate enough to see it for sale.

Resident Evil Outbreak – Promo Disc

Although Resident Evil Outbreak was a change in direction for the franchise, which included AI co-op play and the ability to play online, I still got some enjoyment from it.

This promo copy of the game comes in a slim clear CD case and does contain a proper insert contain details of the game play and default controls.

This promo is becoming rarer to spot on ebay nowadays and therefore tends to sell for about £15 when it does turn up.

Dino Crisis – Promo Disc

Posted in Playstation 1 on July 12, 2012 by drewturpin

This Capcom release is a rare PS1 promo and is in mint condition. It comes in a clam case, a lot like the ones you use to get when you rented PS1 games from Blockbuster.

What makes this even more interesting is that the insert is in one complete section, rather then a front and back insert you would get in the official PS1 version. Also the layout of the text on the back is slightly different from the commercial release making this a little more unusual.

The back of the insert also advises you that the game instructions are on the reverse of the inlay, however in the two copies I own the reverse is blank. However a game manual is included which appears to be the same one contained in the commercial release.

Resident Evil 4 – Collector’s Edition

Posted in Playstation 2 with tags on July 9, 2012 by drewturpin

Following on from my previous post regarding Resident Evil 4 – Steelbook Edition, this is DVD that was given away by GAME stores to anyone that pre-ordered the PS2 version of the game.

It comes in a nice cardboard “gatefold” sleeve which contains both the DVD and a fourteen page art booklet.

Disappointingly the DVD just contains a short “making of…” film and not a lot else. Each “Collector’s Edition” is individually numbered (in this case number 14430) and doesn’t appear too often on ebay, but when it does then expect to pay about £10 for it.

Resident Evil 4 – Steelbook Edition

This is the Playstation 2 steelbook edition of the superb Resident Evil 4, with alternative artwork and embossed lettering on the front. The only extra included is a mini game guide booklet, which provides a walkthrough of the first chapter to encourage you to purchase the full Europress guide (there is a flyer for this included).

Worth collecting if you are a Resi fan but do ensure it comes with the game guide as a lot that appear on ebay seem to be missing this, also the case is easily dented so try and find one which is not. This game is very common on ebay so can be easily picked up for under £10.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness – Collector’s Edition

Posted in Playstation 2 on July 8, 2012 by drewturpin

This item is titled up as an “Exclusive Collector’s Edition DVD” but I don’t know a lot more than that. I am guessing this is another pre-order give away from Game stores, as there is the Game logo on the disc and back of the box, and this would be for ordering either the PS2 or PC version of the game. Unlike a lot of other pre-order discs I have this one does contain a decent amount of content, including:

  • Exclusive footage taken from the game.
  • A “making of…” the game.
  • The official game soundtrack.
  • Jill De Jong photoshoot.
  • 24/7 TV Network feature on Lara Croft.
  • Movie trailer of Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

I picked this up at a bootsale in 2011 for 50p and had not seen this before or since, so I am more than happy to have this item included in my Tomb Raider collection.
