ZX Computing – Issue 1

Posted in Books & Magazines, ZX Spectrum on December 31, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the very first edition of ZX Computing magazine which was first published in the April 1982 (although the magazine shows this as Summer 1982) by Argus Press. The magazine was originally released bi-monthly, but went monthly from issue 24 (April 1986). The magazine contained “type-in” programs for the ZX80, ZX81 and ZX Spectrum computers, and also concentrated on more serious article on computing.

The magazine ran for 38 issues with the last one published in June 1987. I picked up this copy from ebay for £10 which isn’t too bad, as it is a difficult one to track down. Therefore putting a price on this magazine is not going to be easy. Because of the age of the magazine the condition can vary, in fact as this magazine used a glued spine rather than the more common staple. This can mean loose pages or pages missing entirely. Fortunately my copy, although well read, is complete with no loose pages.

I have been after this particular promo for my Metal Gear Solid collection for a while now, and was very pleased to snap one up from ebay for £20.

However expect to around £40 and upwards for a copy, as most of these on ebay tend to be on “buy it now” auctions.

Final Fantasy XII – The Complete Guide – Limited Edition

Posted in Playstation 2 on December 7, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the very comprehensive game guide to Final Fantasy XII, published by Piggyback and weighing in at a massive 340 pages. To say this is a game guide is a little unfair as this Limited Edition come in a hardback cover.

The book also comes with a slip cover which corresponds to the standard version of the guide, as well as a placeholder. Under the slip cover the book is faux leather with gold embellishment to give it that tome effect.

This book is well worth tracking down as it makes a nice change from the standard paperback guides that are more common. This book does appear regularly on ebay and can be picked up for about £10 but do expect to pay heavy postage on top of this.
