Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Limited Edition Slipcase

Posted in Playstation 2 on August 18, 2013 by drewturpin

Here with have Metal Gear Solid 3 for the Playstation 2 including a limited edition cardboard slipcase in great condition.

Metal Gear Solid 3 (2)

This is just the original retail version with the slipcase being an HMV pre-order exclusive. The slipcase was also available at certain signing events attended by Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa, and these tended to be at HMV’s flagship stores in London.

Metal Gear Solid 3 (3)

I bought this of ebay, along with a collection of other Metal Gear Solid games for a total of £21, which worked out at just over £4 per game. Expect to pay about £10 for a copy, but do make sure the cardboard slipcase is in a decent condition.

Acorn User – Issue 1

Posted in Acorn Atom, Books & Magazines on August 9, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the very first edition of Acorn User magazine which was published in July 1982.  This particular issue spanned two months with issue two being published in September 1982, and the magazine going monthly thereafter. The magazine ran for an impressive 267 issues with the last issue being published in December 2003. This first issue was only 46 pages and covered both the Acorn Atom and BBC Micro.

Acorn User (1)

Along with this magazine I also have an official Acorn User binder I picked up when I bought a BBC Micro B a few years back.

Acorn User (2)

The magazine is another ebay purchase costing £6.99 on a “buy it now” auction, which I think is a good price considering it is in great condition. I have not seen any other copies on ebay, or indeed any of the binders either, so providing an actual price for these items would be difficult. As with any magazine the condition can vary, so if you are lucky to find one I would recommend contacting the seller to find out about the overall state of the magazine (e.g. missing pages, rips, tears, writing etc).

Horizons Tape – Sealed

Posted in ZX Spectrum on August 2, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the Horizons tape that came with the original ZX Spectrum back in 1982, and as you can imagine there were many of these released and so they are not particularly rare. The tape contains programs that demonstrate the “power” of the machine.

Horizons (1)

Side A of the tape contains several tutorials, whilst side B contains a mixture of games and utilities. However what makes this particular copy special is that is still sealed.

Horizons (2)

This was another impulse buy off ebay many years ago, and I have only seen one other since. Pricing of this item is difficult, but I am pleased with this purchase because the Horizons tape gave me my first introduction to the ZX Spectrum.
