Jet Set Willy II

Posted in Commodore Amiga on March 27, 2015 by drewturpin

The classic Jet Set Willy II, for the Commodore Amiga in 3½ inch disc format. Confusingly the insert is for Jet Set Willy, but the disk is marked and loads as Jet Set Willy II. This error seems to be common for all the releases of this version.

The Amiga release boasts scrolling rooms, improved graphics and sound over its 8 bit predecessor, however for some reason the room names are omitted from each of the screens. The scrolling screen and lack of room names seems to make this a different sort of platformer than the original single screen classic, and not nearly as good.

Unfortunately, unlike the Amiga version of Manic Miner, a port of the original game was not included on the disk, which was a great shame. This game does appear relatively frequently on ebay, but expect to pay in the region of about £10 for one.

The classic Manic Miner for the Commodore Amiga in 3½ inch disc format. The Amiga release contains a fairly accurate port of the original ZX Spectrum version. It also had an enhanced edition with more colour, bigger sprites and scrolling screens so as to make use of the more powerful 16 bit computer.

The scrolling screen was not to everyone’s liking, especially if you have already played Matthew Smith’s original single screen classic. However at least you had the original port included on the disk, so effectively having the best of both worlds. This game does appear relatively frequently on ebay, but expect to pay in the region of about £10 to secure one.
