Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell – Collector’s Edition

Posted in PC on February 15, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the Collector’s Edition of the first game in the Splinter Cell franchise and was released for the PC. Included are the three main game discs which now include three new maps (Kola Cell, Vselka 1 and Vselka 2), and also a bonus disc containing  new game trailer and cinematics.

The discs are stored in a study gatefold sleeve, which in turn is stored in a cardboard out sleeve. Finally the whole package comes in a high quality mini backpack displaying the Splinter Cell name.

I have never seen one of these on ebay and the internet doesn’t seem to provide many details about this specific release of the game. Therefore I have no idea how rare it is or how much it is worth, but it is a nice little collectible all the same.

Resident Evil 4 – Chainsaw Controller

Posted in PC, Playstation 2 on February 12, 2013 by drewturpin

This is the official Limited Edition Chainsaw controller for the Playstation 2 and PC version of Resident Evil 4, this is number 35254 out of 50000. Each controller (which is based on the actual chainsaw in the game) has its own unique blood splatter artwork and come in a pretty decent display case. A rumble feature is included to give it that “realistic chainsaw feel”, and a rip cord which once pulled produces “authentic chainsaw sounds”.

The chainsaw controller does make the game harder to play when compared to a normal controller. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, as I have completed the game several times over as this controller adds a new challenge. I would perhaps say this is more of a collectable then an actually peripheral, and given the high build quality and the fact it come in a display case.

The case also has a drawer which stores the extension cable for the controller and also a USB adaptor allowing for it to be used on a PC. In addition there is also a compartment to store the game box.

I picked this up new from Amazon for £5 a few years ago, and really wished I had also purchased the GameCube version at the same time (which is yellow in colour). Expect to pay £20+ for this on ebay and do remember that postage on this item is likely to be expensive. I remember when I originally received this I was surprised at how big and heavy it was.

Legend of Zelda, The: Collector’s Edition

Posted in GameCube on February 7, 2013 by drewturpin

This is a boxed promotional disc for the GameCube and is definitely one for the Zelda fans, as it contains four great titles. There are the two NES games The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link, and the two N64 games Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.

The Legend of Zelda CE (1)

Bonus material includes “Legend of Zelda: A Retrospective” as well as movie and playable demo of The Wind Waker. I have managed to pick up three of these at various bootsales paying no more that £2 for each. This is a great GameCube compilation and a must for any serious Zelda collector, however expect to pay £20 and upwards for a copy from ebay.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Posted in Playstation 2 on February 1, 2013 by drewturpin

The was the fifth and final Silent Hill game for the Playstation 2 and was released in 2010, being one of the last big titles for the console. Shattered Memories is a port of the Wii version of the game that was released a few months previous, and is a “reimagining” of the original Playstation Silent Hill game. Surprising combat was completely removed from the game, with the developers opting for the “run away” option instead.

Silent Hill SM (1)

This game is relatively rare due to it being released towards the end of the Playstation 2’s commercial life and therefore not selling in great numbers. Because of this and the fact it is a very good game has meant it is highly sought after by collectors of the series. I picked up this brand new copy online from Zavvi for just £10, however expect to pay over £20 for a copy.
