Vib Ribbon – Promo Disc

Posted in Playstation 1 on June 12, 2015 by drewturpin

Here we have the promo disc of the underrated game Vib Ribbon, originally released in 2000 on the Playstation 1. This rhythm video game was a unique experience on the Playstation 1 as the actual software loads directly into the consoles Random Access Memory (RAM). This then allows for the player to use any music with the game, creating their own levels to play through. Due to the game simple black and white vector graphics, it was largely overlooked in the UK, however two sequels did appear on the Playstation 2, but only in Japan.

Although the promo disc doesn’t appear that often on ebay, it can be picked up for around £10. Unusually the more common original game disc tends to be more expensive to buy on ebay, costing in the region of £25.

Grand Theft Auto – Value Series

Posted in Playstation 1 on February 6, 2015 by drewturpin

This is the “Value Series” re-release version of the first game of the infamous franchise. With most of these types of re-releases the only difference in the packaging is the yellow “Value Series” strip on the front insert and game manual.

However in the case of this re-release the game disc is yellow rather than the usual red in the original release. This does make if fairly unique and worthy of a place in my GTA collection.

Grand Theft Auto 1 V (2)

Surprisingly these do not turn up that often on ebay, and most of the ones I have seen contain the original red disc instead.

Grand Theft Auto 1 V (3)

If you are lucky to track one down then expect to pay in the region of £5 for it, which is well worth the money. Do make sure it also contains the both the maps, and check the condition of these as well as they do tend to tear very easily.

Metal Gear Solid – Memory Card

Posted in Playstation 1 on January 30, 2015 by drewturpin

This is a silver “Metal Gear Solid” branded Playstation 1 memory card, and was a pre-order bonus for anyone who bought the game from Woolworths.

The card, produced by Joytech, and comes in a CD style case with front and back insert.

Metal Gear Solid Card (2)

This is not particular rare as about 25,000 were produced, however expect to pay up to £10 for the card alone and up to £20 if you can find one in its own case.

Metal Gear Solid Card (3)

I bought this off ebay for £10, which is pretty good considering the condition it is in.

Final Fantasy Origins

Posted in Playstation 1 on December 23, 2014 by drewturpin

Final Fantasy Origins is, as the title suggests, a compilation release of both Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 for the Playstation.

Final Fantasy Origins (1)

The two games are ports of the original Super NES releases with added full motion videos (FMV) sequences, enhanced graphics and some new features.

Final Fantasy Origins (2)

In addition this game came with a couple of double-sided art cards by Yoshitaka Amano.

Final Fantasy Origins (3)

Final Fantasy Origins (4)

Expect to pay around £20 for one of these, but make sure it does contain both art card, as many that are on sale tend to not have them.

Final Fantasy Anthology – Promo Discs

Posted in Playstation 1 on August 9, 2014 by drewturpin

Final Fantasy Anthology is a compilation release of both Final Fantasy 4 and 5 for the Playstation. Essentially the two games are ports of the original Super NES releases with a few full motion videos (FMV) added for good effect.

Here we have the two promo discs which are in mint condition. This is another promo that is not seen that often on ebay, so expect to pay upwards of £30 for the pair.

Barbie: Race & Ride – Review Disc

Posted in Playstation 1 on July 5, 2014 by drewturpin

Here we have a rare review disc for the Playstation’s Barbie: Race and Ride.  Unlike promos discs these were sent out to magazines for previews/reviews at various times during the game’s development.

Barbie Review (1)

The disc is a very distinctive white, which contrasts from the black of the promo, demo and rental discs. This disc is dated 05/10/1999 and is labelled as “Final 1.0” which I would assume would be a pretty much the final version of the game, as it was officially released on the 1st December 1999.

Barbie Review (2)

I picked this up at a bootsale for 50 pence, and although this would not be the sort of game I would normally collect, I am still happy to own a rare review disc in my Playstation collection. Review discs very rarely turn up on ebay, and when they do they tend to be on the more expensive side. I have never seen another review disc of this game so I have no idea of its value.

Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas – Playing Cards

Posted in PC, Playstation 1 on November 15, 2013 by drewturpin

Here we have a sealed pack of Die Hard Trilogy 2: Vendetta playing cards, which were a promotion items for the Playstation and PC release of the game. However I’m afraid I don’t know anymore than that.

Die Hard Trilogy Cards (1)

I picked up ten of these at a boot sale for 20 pence each. I sold nine on ebay for £5 and upwards, with this last one staying in my collection.
